In September this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production decreased by 2.5 percent in the euro area and by 2.3 percent in the EU-27, as compared with August. In August, production had increased by 0.9 percent and 0.5 percent month on month respectively. In September this year compared with September 2011, industrial production decreased by 2.3 percent in the euro area and by 2.7 percent in the EU-27. These figures are released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
As compared to August, in September this year production of non-durable consumer goods decreased by 2.8 percent in the euro area and by 2.1 percent in the EU-27, while capital goods fell by three percent in the euro area and by 2.6 percent in the EU-27. Meanwhile, the production of durable consumer goods decreased by 4.3 percent in the euro area and by 3.7 percent in the EU-27. In September this year, intermediate goods decreased by two percent in the euro area and decreased by 1.7 percent in the EU-27. Production of energy decreased by 1.8 percent in the euro area and by 2.6 percent in the EU-27, month on month.
Among the member states for which data are available, in September as compared to the previous month, industrial production rose in four states, fell in 18 and remained stable in the Netherlands. The largest decreases were registered in Ireland (-12.6%), in Portugal (-12%), in Greece (-4.4%), Sweden (-3.4%), in Spain and Latvia (both with (-2.8 %) and in France (-2.7 %), while the highest increases were in Estonia (+2%) and Slovakia (+1.4%).
As compared to the same month of 2011, in September this year production of capital goods declined by 0.8 percent in the euro area and by 1.2 percent in the EU-27, while intermediate goods fell by four percent and 4.1 percent respectively. Durable consumer goods fell by 1.2 percent in the euro area and by three percent in the EU-27, while production of energy decreased by 1.6 percent in the euro area and declined by 2.8 percent in the EU-27. The production of non durable consumer goods fell by 2.3 percent in the euro area and by 1.8 in the EU-27, year on year.
Among the member states for which data are available, in September this year as compared to September 2011 industrial production rose in six states and fell in 17 others. The highest increases were registered in Slovakia (+13%), in Estonia (+8.3%) and in Lithuania (+8.0%), while the largest decreases were seen in Ireland (-12.8%), Portugal (-8.8%), Greece (-7.5%), Spain (-7 %) and in Italy (-4.8 %)
