Euro area industrial output up 0.8 percent in Apr over Mar

In April this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production increased by 0.8 percent in the euro area and by 0.7 percent in the EU-28 as compared with March, while industrial production in March had decreased by 0.4 percent in the euro area and by 0.3 percent in the EU-28, month on month. In April this year compared with April 2013, industrial production increased by 1.4 percent in the euro area and by 2.1 percent in the EU-28. These figures are released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union.
 
As compared to March, in April this year the production of durable goods remained stable in the euro area and increased by 0.7 percent in the EU-28. Meanwhile, in the given month, production of non-durable consumer goods rose by 2.1 percent in the euro area and by 1.4 percent in the EU-28, while production of intermediate goods increased by 0.6 percent in both areas month on month. In April of the current year, production of capital goods remained stable in the euro area and increased by 0.4 percent in the EU-28, while production of energy increased by 2.5 percent in the euro area and by 1.8 percent in the EU-28, all month on month.  
 
Among the member states, in April the highest month-on-month increases were registered in Portugal (+6.7 percent), Lithuania (+4.9 percent), the Netherlands (+3.5 percent) and Hungary (+2.5 percent), and the largest decreases in Malta (-6.0 percent), Croatia (-2.9 percent), Denmark (-0.9 percent) and Romania and Finland (both -0.3 percent).

As compared to the same month of 2013, in April this year production of non-durable consumer goods increased by 5.0 percent in the euro area and by 4.2 percent in the EU-28, while production of intermediate goods rose by 3.4 percent in the euro area and by 4.3 percent in the EU-28. In April of the current year, production of durable consumer goods increased by one percent in the euro area and by two percent in the EU-28, production of energy dropped by 6.7 percent in the euro area and by six percent in the EU-28, while production of capital goods increased by 0.3 percent in the euro area and rose by 1.8 percent in the EU-28, all year on year.

Among the member states for which data are available, in April this year the largest year-on-year decreases were registered in Malta (-11.4 percent), the Netherlands (-3.4 percent), and Greece (-2.4 percent) and the highest increases in Ireland (+15.0 percent), Hungary (+10.1 percent), the Czech Republic (+9.2 percent) and Portugal (+5.8 percent).
