German crude steel output up four percent in May

In May this year, Germany's crude steel output increased by 8.5 percent month on month to 3.85 million metric tons, rising by four percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the information provided by the German steel federation Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl (WV Stahl). In the first five months of this year, crude steel production in Germany decreased by one percent year on year to 18.2 million mt.
 
Meanwhile, in April Germany's total hot rolled steel product output amounted to 3.27 million metric tons, increasing by 1.9 percent year on year, including 2.12 million metric tons of flat steel products - up three percent year on year, and 1.42 million metric tons of long steel products - down 0.2 percent year on year. 
 
In the first four months of the year, the country's hot rolled steel output decreased by 4.2 percent to 12.3 million mt, consisting of 8.05 million metric tons of flat steel products - down 3.4 percent year on year, and 4.26 million metric tons of long steel products - falling by 5.7 percent year on year.
