In April this year, the seasonally and working-day adjusted turnover in the German manufacturing industry rose by 1.1 percent compared to the previous month, following a revised month-on-month increase of 1.5 percent in March, according to the preliminary data reported by Germany's Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). The working day adjusted turnover in the German manufacturing sector in April this year was higher by 0.8 percent compared to April 2012.
In the first four months of the year, the working-day adjusted turnover in manufacturing was 1.8 percent below the level of the same period of the previous year, with domestic sales decreasing by 3.5 percent and foreign sales rising by 0.1 percent.
In April, the greatest month-on-month turnover increase in the German manufacturing sector was observed in the mechanical engineering industry with a rise of 7.3 percent. In the motor vehicle segment, in the given month there was a 2.6 percent decrease, with a 3.9 percent decrease in domestic sales and a two percent decline in foreign sales, month on month.
In April, the turnover of German metal and metal product manufacturing increased 2.1 percent as compared to March, with domestic sales increasing by 4.7 percent, while foreign sales were down by two percent, month on month. In April, a 1.7 percent month-on-month increase was recorded in the turnover in manufacture of fabricated metal products, with domestic sales rising 0.3 percent and foreign sales increasing by 4.6 percent, both compared to the previous month.
