Global DRI output down 11.5 percent in February from January

According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the 14 countries accounting for approximately 87 percent of total world DRI production in 2013 amounted to 4.03 million metric tons in February this year, falling by 23.2 percent year on year and down 11.5 percent month on month. 
 
Meanwhile, world DRI output came to 8.59 million metric tons in the January-February period of this year, decreasing by 18.9 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2015.
 
The worldsteel data show that India was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in February this year. India's DRI output was 1.22 million metric tons in the given month. India was followed by Iran, Saudi Arabia and Mexico in January, with estimated outputs of 1.20 million mt, 395,000 mt and 330,000 mt respectively.
