According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the 14 countries accounting for approximately 87 percent of total world DRI production in 2013 amounted to 4.62 million metric tons in June this year, decreasing by 9.4 percent year on year and down 2.6 percent month on month.
Meanwhile, world DRI output came to 26.8 million metric tons in the first half of this year, decreasing by 11.4 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2015.
The worldsteel data show that Iran was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in June this year. Iran’s and India’s DRI outputs were 1.38 million metric tons in the given month. Iran and India were followed by Mexico and Saudi Arabia in June, with estimated outputs of 495,000 mt and 405,000 mt respectively.
