India issues mandatory quality control order for cast iron products

India’s Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the ministry of commerce and industry has issued a mandatory quality control order (QCO) for cast iron products like manhole covers, malleable iron fittings and grey iron castings, a government official said on Tuesday, August 29, citing the official notification.

The official notification said that the QCO will come into effect after six months.

Once the QCO comes into effect, manufacture, storing, trading, sale of the products in question will be prohibited unless certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) that each of the products complies with the standards specified by the latter.
