Indian passenger car makers report subdued sales growth in June

Indian passenger car sales as denoted by dispatches from factories to dealers showed muted growth in June this year and even declines by some manufacturers, data compiled from various manufacturers showed on Tuesday, July 2.

The largest passenger car maker in terms of market share, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), reported sales of 179,000 units in June, up 12 percent over the corresponding month of the previous year, while the second largest car maker Hyundai Motors India Limited (HMIL) reported sales of 64,803 units, up a marginal one percent year on year.

Tata Motors Limited reported sales of 74,147 units recording a decline of eight percent, while Audi India sold 1,431 units, a fall of six percent, both year on year.

Kia India Limited reported sales of 21,300 units, up 10 percent, and MG Motors India Limited sold 4,644 units, a rise of nine percent, year on year.

Toyota Kirloskar Motors Limited bucked the subdued industry growth trend recording a 40 percent rise in sales, selling 27,474 units in June.
