Industrial production in Mexico grew 5.5 percent, year-over-year in October, the 32nd consecutive annual increase. This was the result of the positive behavior of the four industries that comprise it, according to SteelOrbis' analysis of data from the national statistics office Inegi.
Industrial activity contributes 32.4 percent of Mexico's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the manufacturing industry is the most important because it contributes 21.1 percent of the country's total GDP. In October, industrial manufacturing production increased, year-over-year, 1.1 percent.
The construction industry, the second most important, contributing 6.0 percent of GDP, registered an increase of 27.7 percent, this is the sixth consecutive month that it has grown by double digits.
The mining industry (4.0 percent of total GDP) grew 0.1 percent in production, the third consecutive annual increase. The energy industry (electricity, gas and water, to the final consumer, which contributes 1.3 percent of GDP) grew 6.9 percent, year-over-year, in October.
