Iran starts construction of Savadkooh coking plant

The construction of Savadkooh coking plant in Iran officially got underway with a ground-breaking ceremony on July 23 attended by Iran's minister of industries and mines, Ali-Akbar Mehrabian. With a planned annual capacity of 300,000 mt, the new plant will be constructed with an investment of Rials 1,000 billion (about $100 million) on a 30-month schedule.
 
Savadkooh coking plant, which is being built by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), is located near Savadkooh city in the northern Iranian province of Mazandaran. In addition, a coal washing plant will be built simultaneously beside the new coking plant with an investment of Rials 100 billion (about $10 million).

Iran's current coke making capacity is about 1.2 million mt per year.
