In August this year, Italian producers' crude steel output increased by 7.4 percent year on year to 1.078 million metric tons, as announced by the Italian steel association Federacciai. In the first eight months of the year, Italian crude steel output rose by 4.4 percent year on year to 15.3 million metric tons.

August was the fifth consecutive month in which a year-on-year increase was recorded in Italian crude steel output, following the year-on-year declines seen in the first quarter this year.

The August 2016 output figure was higher than the outputs of 985,000 metric tons in August 2014 and 994,000 metric tons in August 2013, while it was lower than the outputs of 1.18 million metric tons in August 2012 and 1.44 million metric tons in August 2011.
