Italian industry minister Luigi Di Maio has stated that the proposal from global steel giant ArcelorMittal regarding the environment and jobs at Italian steelmaker Ilva is not satisfactory, according to Reuters.

After a meeting with ArcelorMittal and union representatives in Rome, Mr. Di Maio said that he expects a much better proposal from ArcelorMittal in terms of both the environment and employment.

ArcelorMittal should have closed its purchase of Ilva by June 30, but the Italian authorities have postponed the takeover until September 15.
