Japan's HR steel strip shipments down 4.1 percent in August from July

In August this year, Japan's hot rolled plate and sheet shipments decreased by 7.5 percent compared to the previous month and were up by 9.9 percent compared to the same month last year, amounting to 823,000 metric tons. 72.4 percent of shipments were made to the domestic market, while the remaining 27.6 percent were made to the export markets, according to the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) data. 
 
In August of the current year, Japan's hot rolled plate and sheet production amounted to 895,000 mt, up 10.3 percent month on month and rising 13.3 percent year on year.
 
Meanwhile, in August, Japan's hot rolled strip shipments amounted to 1.56 million mt, down 4.1 percent from the previous month and falling by 2.1 percent year on year. 20.2 percent of shipments were made to the domestic market, while the remaining 79.8 percent were made to the export markets. In the given month, Japan's hot rolled strip production amounted to 1.68 million mt, increasing by 4.1 percent month on month and down by 1.3 percent year on year.
