According to the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, country's industrial production in May rose 5.9 percent compared to the previous month, showing an increase for the third consecutive month. Meanwhile, industrial production in May showed a decrease of 29.5 percent year on year. The seasonally adjusted index in May was 79.2.
The industries that mainly contributed to the increase were transport equipment, electronic parts and devices, and iron and steel.
According to a survey of production forecasts for Japanese manufacturing, industrial production in Japan is expected to increase by 3.1 percent in June and by 0.9 percent in July.
The industries which are expected to contribute to the increase in June are general machinery, electronic parts and devices, and information and communication electronics equipment, while the industries which are projected to contribute to the increase in July are transport equipment, iron and steel, and information and communication electronics equipment.
According to the report of the ministry, Japan's shipments of industrial products in May were up 4.5 percent from the previous month, showing an increase for the third consecutive month, while a yearly decrease of 30.0 percent was recorded. The seasonally adjusted index in May was 78.7.
On the other hand, in the period in question inventory levels decreased 0.6 percent month on month, showing a decrease for the fifth consecutive month. A yearly decrease of 8.3 percent was recorded. The seasonally adjusted index in May was 96.5.
