Japan’s JFE Steel to triple electrical steel sheet capacity at Kurashiki

Tuesday, 23 May 2023 12:10:52 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

Japanese steelmaker JFE Steel Corporation has announced that it has decided to implement a second expansion of the electrical steel sheet capacity of its Kurashiki plant, with an investment of about JPY 46 billion ($332.58 million), in line with anticipation of increasing demand for electrical steel sheet as automobiles become more electric.

Combined with the initial expansion project currently underway, the plant’s production capacity for top-grade non-oriented electrical steel sheets, which are used in the main engine motors of electric vehicles, will be tripled. The production unit is expected to begin operations within the fiscal year ending in March 2027.
