According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in April decreased by 66.3 percent on tonnage basis compared to March, falling to six ships, down from 11 ships recorded in March, totaling 262,350 gross tons, consisting of five bulk carriers. In April last year, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled 22 ships amounting to 1.36 million gross tons.
In the first four months of this year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 27 ships with an aggregate of 1.5 million gross tons, down 67 percent year on year.
On the other hand, in April this year Japan delivered 23 ships for export, totaling 836,481 gross tons, declining from 40 ships totaling 1.8 million gross tons recorded in March. In April 2015, Japan's new ship deliveries for export had totaled 20 ships with 702,381 gross tons.
Meanwhile, in the January-April period of the current year, Japan delivered 134 ships for export, totaling 5.59 million gross tons, rising by 20.9 percent year on year.
