Thursday, 21 May 2020 23:59:04 (GMT+3)   |   San Diego

After announcing recently that it would be “expanding its footprint substantially over the next two years,” JM Steel announced it will share the Sinton, Texas location of Steel Dynamics’ flat roll steel mill, according to local news reports. The company expects to hire 50 employees, which will be added to the 600 workers Steel Dynamics has estimated for its $1.9 billion operation.

The mill is expected to produce 3 million tons per year using next generation electric arc furnace technology, and will include three slitting lines designed to produce 30,000 tons of steel a month, each line capable of a different size. The new facility will also create two roll forming lines and will have a stamping press to produce 260,000 bolts per month for markets in Mexico, Honduras, Costa Rica, Chile, and Peru.

The plant should be operational by June 30, 2021, news reports said.
