Liberty Ostrava decommissions one of three coke ovens

Tuesday, 05 September 2023 14:55:35 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

Czech Republic-based steelmaker Liberty Ostrava, a subsidiary of UK-based Liberty Steel, has decided to shut down one of its three coke ovens, coke oven No. 11, according to a company spokesperson, saying that the coke oven in question has become unprofitable and inefficient due to surplus capacity.

“The government has so far been unsuccessful in reducing the impacts of high energy prices and some of the highest inflation in Europe on our businesses, so we have had to take some decisive action in the best interest of the business,” the statement read.
