Linova Recycling Technology is reportedly looking to build a zinc plant in Ecuador, local newspaper La Hora said.
The Chinese and Palestinian-backed company was looking to set up a plant in the city of Pujili, and also reportedly tried to build a facility in Guaytacama, but the area the company was interested in was not qualified as an industrial park.
Linova’s zinc plant will recover and recycle waste from local steelmakers Adelca and Novacero, and then export iron and zinc as a final product.
If the company succeeds in setting up a plant in Ecuador, it would be Linova’s first plant in South America. Linova also has a plant in Mexico, the media report said.
Jose Zuniga, development manager for Linova in Ecuador, met Pujili’s city officials. However, city officials are demanding more meetings to ask further questions about the potential project.
