Mauritania’s national mining giant Societe Nationale Industrielle et Miniere (SNIM) and AMAN Green Energy Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Serbia-headquartered renewable energy developer CWP Global, have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a direct reduced iron (DRI) production plant in Mauritania, according to local media reports.
The new DRI plant will use green hydrogen, water and electricity from AMAN’s hydrogen project and refine millions of metric tons of raw iron ore supplied by SNIM to produce hot-briquetted iron, mainly intended for export to Europe. In addition, the project may accommodate several green hydrogen plants. The project will also reduce carbon emissions.
