Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant (ChMK), a part of Russia’s leading mining and steel group Mechel, has announced that it has completely revamped its blast furnace No. 5.
As part of the modernization works, the company completely disassembled and rebuilt the blast furnace in question and replaced the older equipment with modern equipment. Accordingly, the three-stage gas purification system, which will prevent combustion products from polluting the atmosphere, was also renewed. Additionally, valves, pipes and nozzles were installed in the filtration system to capture dust, while the lining was recoated to protect the surface from higher temperatures.
ChMK has three blast furnaces that provide a substantial amount of pig iron for steel production. The blast furnace No. 5 has a pig iron output of 3,900 mt per day.
