Mexican auto sales and production increase in January

Following the same uptrend seen in 2015, the Mexican automotive industry has continued to show a positive performance in the first month of the year.

The nation’s automotive industry association, AMIA, said cars output in January rose 0.4 percent, year-on-year, to 267,498 units, while domestic sales increased 15.4 percent in the same period to 119,693 units.

Exports of autos in January improved 4.1 percent, year-on-year, to 213,244 units. Exports to the US reached 165,119 units in January, 14.3 percent up, year-on-year, while Canadian purchases of Mexican autos in the same period diminished 24.1 percent, totaling 22,751 units.
