At the next meeting of the North American Steel Trade Committee (NASTC), to be held in Washington, DC, Mexican steelmakers plan to urge the US to implement measures similar to those with other trading partners, such as Korea, who have mechanisms for attaining suspension agreements.
"We want them to give us a similar treatment, unlike other countries with other types of practices with subsidies that Mexico does not have," said Juan Antonio Reboulen, president of the Communication Commission of CANACERO .
In an interview with Mexican news outlet Reportacero, Reboulen, who is also director of DeAcero, said that exports of Mexican steel in some products are declining due to the cases against wire rod and rebar.
"We want to get it resolved in a ‘suspension prior’ agreement with the opinion of the courts like other countries. There are ways to agree that don’t lead to disputes that last 12 to 18 months," he said.
