Mexico’s economy secretariat, SE, has applied a 35.6 percent provisional antidumping (AD) duty over the imports of high-carbon ferromanganese from South Korea, it said on Monday.
According to the Mexican government, the 35.6 percent tariff will be added to the product at the same it continues an on-going investigation over the imports of ferromanganese from the Asian country.
Earlier this year, as previously reported by SteelOrbis, the Mexican government started an AD investigation over the imports of ferromanganese from Korea, following a request from local producer Minera Autlan.
Local producer Minera Autlan filed a request at SE on November 20, 2015, saying cheaper prices for the product have affected domestic output of ferromanganese.
As a result of the on-going investigations, Dongbu Metal Co. was invited by SE to present its arguments over the case, but the producer and exporter said on April 20, 2016, it wasn’t going to export ferromanganese to Mexico anymore.
SE said on Monday that based on information it analyzed for the case there are enough elements to sustain its decision of applying a provisional AD duty.
