Mexico exempts imports of certain grades of alloyed steel for oil and gas pipes

Thursday, 28 December 2017 19:33:31 (GMT+3)   |   Sao Paulo

Mexico’s economy secretariat, SE, announced this week it has allowed imports of certain grades of alloyed steel for oil and gas pipes. The products must meet the manufacturing norms of the American Petroleum Institute (API) under the ISO 3183 or the API 5L regulation.

A notice at the country’s official gazette, Diario Oficial Federal (DOF), said grades X-70, and X-60 to X-100, of steel pipes for oil and gas applications may benefit from the Regla Octava or the 8th Rule.

The 8th Rule grants certain products a duty-free status if they meet specific criteria, such as lack of supply of the product by domestic producers. Products may also be exempt from duties if they are highly demanded or, in certain cases, are labeled as of high quality and critical for use in certain industries.
