Mexico’s manganese and ferroalloys producer Minera Autlan said last Friday it resumed operations at its Gomez Palacio plant in the state of Durango.
In a filing at the country’s stock exchange, Bolsa Mexicana de Valores (BMV), the ferroalloys producer explained the plant had halted its operations in January this year due to a challenging scenario for the global steel industry and due to the competition with Asian ferroalloy exporters.
However, it was able to resume operations thanks to the imposition by the Mexican government of countervailing duties (CVD) over the Indian imports of ferrosilicon manganese, as previously reported by SteelOrbis.
Mexico’s economy secretariat, SE, imposed a provisional CVD duty of 43.17 percent on the imports of ferrosilicon manganese from India, following a request from local producer Minera Autlan.
The Gomez Palacio plant specializes in the production of silicon manganese and has a 33,000 mt/year capacity.
