The value of Mexico's finished steel exports to the world broke the negative streak of the last 25 months and in October grew 7.1 percent, year-over-year, to $1.03 billion, according to SteelOrbis' analysis of data from the national statistics office Inegi.
The value of imports in October was $2.66 billion, 3.3 percent less than the same month last year.
The trade flow of finished steel products from Mexico with the world reached $3.69 billion, 0.6 percent less, year over year.
In the January-October period, the value of exports decreased 9.5 percent or $1.0 billion to total $9.92 billion. Imports totaled $25.79 billion, 14.3 percent or $4.3 billion less than the same period last year.
In October, the trade balance of the Mexican steel industry was in deficit by $1.63 billion, 8.8 percent less than the same month last year. In total, the deficit was $15.88 billion, 17.0 percent less than the January-October 2023 period.
