MMK masters production of new S500MC steel grade

The Russian steel mill Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that at its flat rolling shops No. 7 and No. 10 it has mastered the production of new S500MC steel grade for the production of 6 x 320 mm hot rolled high strength strip for Russia's largest automobile corporation KAMAZ.

The new S500MC steel, a high strength micro-alloyed steel grade, will be produced according to DIN EN 10149-2:1995 European standard, and will be used for the production of parts by cold forming. The new steel grade will be mostly used by the automobile industry in the production of high strength auto components, body support frames, strengthening elements, and also in the production of details responsible for passive safety of the car. In addition, the new S500MC steel grade can be used also by the construction industry in the production of steel structures, bridges, etc.

In order to increase the quality of its products, during the last few months MMK has mastered the production of more than 20 new steel grades.
