Denis Kvasov, CEO of Turkey-based steel producer MMK Metalurji, a subsidiary of Russian steel giant Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK), stated that MMK Metalurji has obtained ISO TS 16949 Automotive Quality Management System Certification, an internationally accredited standard for automotive materials suppliers, and has started works on production of galvanized deep drawing quality and extra deep drawing quality steels and low-alloyed HSLA steels, according to the Turkish daily Dunya.
Meanwhile, as stated by Mr. Kvasov, MMK Metalurji also plans to put its hot rolled sheet facility, which was idled in 2012, into operation in the second half of 2018.
The company’s export value in the first half of the current year reached $100 million and it expects to reach its targets set for the whole year.
Regarding problems in the sector, Mr. Kvasov stated that the main problem is the supply-demand imbalance and that the desired profitability cannot be achieved due to this problem. In addition, the potential in the neighboring region Middle East market cannot be evaluated because of the long-standing troubles in the region.
