MMK to invest around RUB 3.22 billion in environmental program in 2016

Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that, under its approved environmental program, it plans to complete approximately 100 environmental initiatives aimed at reducing and mitigating the company’s environmental impact in the current year. MMK Group’s total investments in the environmental program this year, which will cover all of MMK’s production facilities and subsidiaries, are estimated at around RUB 3.22 billion ($49.59 million).

MMK stated that the major investments will be directed at the Magnitogorsk mill and will focus on reducing emissions of air pollutants. MMK plan to complete 40 initiatives aimed at reducing and mitigating harmful air emissions, with estimated investments exceeding RUB 2.17 billion ($33.46 million). In addition, the company will invest over RUB 218 million ($3.35 million) in 20 initiatives to reduce water consumption and pollutant discharge, in addition to a further RUB 387 million ($5.96 million) in industrial waste utilization in 2016.
