Russian steelmaker Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that it is carrying out a major environmental project aimed at the reconstruction of sulphure capture systems at its sintering plant.
In 2015, the company plans to commission the first stems of the new sintering gas emissions cleansing complex at its sulphure capture system No. 2. Reconstruction works will be completed in 2017 and will improve the quality of the air in Magnitogorsk by reducing dust air emissions.The total investment of this project is to exceed RUB 3 billion.
MMK said that measures aimed at reducing air quality impact are a priority for its environmental activities. Over the last five years, MMK's investment in capital construction of new gas-cleaning units and in reconstruction of outdated ones has exceeded RUB 2.1 billion.
