Morocco extends safeguard measure on wire rod and rebar imports

The Turkish Steel Exporters' Association (CIB) has stated that the Moroccan Ministry of Industry, Trade and New Technologies has extended the import quota for rebar and wire rod. The ministry reiterated that Turkey is still included among the countries exempt from the safeguard measure.
 
The overall import quota stands at 121,000 mt of wire rod and 72,600 mt of rebar until the end of 2016, 133,100 mt of wire rod and 79,860 mt of rebar until the end of 2017 and 146,410 mt of wire rod and 87,846 mt of rebar until the end of 2018.
 
The ministry's decision foresees a safeguard measure of MAD 550 ($56) per metric ton for the countries exceeding the annual quota.
 
The products subject to the safeguard measure currently fall under Customs Tariff Statistics Position Numbers 7213919000, 7214209000 and 7214999100.
