New car registrations in EU up 4.6 percent in January-May

In May this year, new passenger car registrations in the EU fell by 3.0 percent year on year to 911,617 units, according to the European association of car manufacturers ACEA.

In the given month, three major markets, namely Italy (-6.6%), Germany (-4.3%) and France (-2.9%) observed declines, while new registrations increased by 3.4 percent in Spain.

In the first five months of this year, new car registrations grew by 4.6 percent year on year to 4.6 million units. Solid growth was recorded in the region’s largest markets over the period, with Spain leading with a 6.8 percent increase, followed by Germany (+5.2%), France (+4.9%) and Italy (+3.4%).
