The Russian steelmaker Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) has issued the second quarter 2008 production results for itself and its subsidiaries.
Accordingly, in April-June 2008 NLMK sold 153,000 metric tons of pig iron - up 33.7 percent, 1.063 million metric tons of slabs - up 29.7 percent, 511,000 metric tons of hot rolled products (including HRC supplied to VIZ-Stal) - up 14 percent, 418,000 metric tons of cold rolled products - up 15.7 percent, 121,000 metric tons of HDG - down 1.1 percent, 99,000 metric tons of pre-painted steel - up 14.6 percent, 95,000 metric tons of dynamo steel - down 2.3 percent, and 42,000 metric tons of transformer steel - up 22.6 percent, all compared to the second quarter of 2007.
During the period in question, NLMK's Danish subsidiary DanSteel A/S increased its heavy plate sales by 27.2 percent year on year to 153,000 metric tons.
VIZ-Stal registered a 2.1 percent reduction in its transformer steel sales and a 50.6 percent decrease in its dynamo steel sales year on year to 47,000 metric tons and to 3,000 metric tons respectively in the second quarter of 2008.
NLMK's iron ore subsidiary Stoilensky GOK showed a 3.5 percent decrease in its iron ore concentrate sales and a 12.4 percent decrease in its sinter ore sales year on year in April-June 2008. The respective figures in metric tons were 2.829 million and 381,000.
During the period in question Altai-koks sold 961,000 metric tons of coke (dry), showing a 1.5 percent year on year decrease.
In the second quarter of 2008, Maxi-Group's sales of billets decreased by 25.1 percent, its sales of rebar increased by 86.3 percent and its scrap sales (including sales within Maxi-Group) by 35.1 percent year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 173,000, 271,000, and 905,000. The company sold 33,000 mt of wire rod during the period in question.
Finally, Steel Invest and Finance (SIF), an affiliated company in which NLMK has a 50 percent share, increased its semis sales by 19.8 percent, its heavy plate sales by 19.6 percent, its pre-painted steel sales by 84.5 percent, its longs sales by 2.9 percent, but decreased its HR steel sales by two percent and its CR steel sales by 5.2 percent year on year in the second quarter of 2008. The respective figures in metric tons were 141,000, 211,000, 291,000, 60,000, 486,000 and 161,000.
