NXP Semiconductors, a division of Royal Philips NV, Netherlands, is exploring the options for setting up a semiconductor fabrication unit in India, a company official said on Tuesday, August 1.
“If there is an ecosystem developed here, we will support the ecosystem. We will make sure that we are doing the manufacturing of our chips which are possible to be done here in India," Hitesh Garg, India country manager said.
The $13 billion NXP Semiconductors has six front-end wafer fabrication facilities, four of which are in the US, two in Austin, Texas and two in Chandler, Arizona, and the other two are in the Netherlands and Singapore. It also owns assembly and testing sites in China and Taiwan.
In a separate statement, a minister of the Indian government said that it is expected to approve and sign an agreement for construction of two fabrication units in the country in October and November.
Under a newly unveiled policy to attract semiconductor manufacturing in the country, the government is offering 50 percent financial assistance to technology companies.
