Olympic Steel Inc. today announced the creation of two new senior level management positions at its Minneapolis operations. Thomas Ehlers will serve as General Manager—Minnesota Plate Division and Thomas Sacco will serve as General Manager—Minnesota Coil Division.
According to a company statement, these positions are intended to strengthen customer service and internal efficiencies for the respective commercial businesses. Going forward, each division will be managed separately, however, many synergies will remain between the two proximate facilities, including common sales and operational teams, according to Raymond Walker, President and Chief Operating Officer—Flat Rolled.
“Tom Ehlers and Tom Sacco have each proven their leadership capabilities in commercial sales and operations. By creating separate commercially focused leadership roles for our Plate and Coil Divisions, we expect to enhance our ability to serve customers in the region,” he said. “We look forward to their continued contributions overseeing the teams that provide our plate and coil customers with industry leading products and services.”
Ehlers began his career with Olympic Steel in 2005, as a Field Sales Representative and quickly progressed to Inside Sales Manager, Regional Manager and then to his most recent role as General Manager. In his new role, he is charged with driving profitable growth by expanding the Company’s sales of plate products with customers in the region.
Sacco has been with Olympic Steel since 1994. He has held key positions in operations, inside sales, and outside sales, until later assuming increasing responsibilities as inside sales and logistics manager, prior to being promoted to his most recent position of Regional Sales Manager in 2013. He will now focus on further developing the Company’s coil sheet business at the Minneapolis Operation.
