The Russian pipe producing company United Metallurgical Company (OMK) has announced the production results of its Nizhny Novgorod-based pipe producing subsidiary Vyksa Steel Works (Vyksa) for June and for the first half of 2009.
In June, Vyksa produced 123,746 mt of pipes - up 0.5 percent, including 80,430 mt of large diameter (LD) pipes - up 26.2 percent year on year. In the first six months of 2009, Vyksa's output of pipes registered a decrease of 1.6 percent year on year to 730,076 mt. Meanwhile, during the period in question its output of LD pipes increased by 28 percent to 463,662 mt, compared to January-June 2008.
"The stable delivery of LD pipes in June was due to OMK's participation in mega projects for the construction of the Nord Stream Central Asia-China gas pipelines, which is our priority and most important business activity," Vyksa's executive director Vladimir Kochetkov stated, adding that the perspectives in the segment of small and medium diameter pipe do not offer comfort due to the decrease of steel consumption in the construction industry.
