Finland-based stainless steel producer Outokumpu has announced that it has completed the closure of its Benrath cold rolling mill in Germany and the transfer of the operations there to its cold rolling mill in Krefeld, also in Germany.
According to Outokumpu’s statement, the Benrath closure follows the completion of its €180 million investment in the production of ferritic steel grades in Krefeld. The investment includes a new pickling and bright annealing line, a new batch annealing facility as well as upgrading of cold-rolling and skinpass mills. Outokumpu will continue to serve its Benrath customers from Krefeld with modernized tools, meeting their demands for high-quality stainless steel.
Outokumpu also stated that the Benrath closure is a significant step in finalizing the restructuring of the company’s European operations.
