After excluding San Giorgio di Nogaro as a candidate for the construction of Metinvest-Danieli’s new mill, it is more and more likely that the base the mill will be the city of Piombino in Tuscany, Italy, according to local Italian media.
This is the conclusion of the meeting held on November 9 that involved Gianpietro Benedetti, president of Danieli Group, Adolfo Urso, Italian minister for business and Made in Italy, the major of Piombino, the president of Tuscany region, and Yuriy Ryzhenkov, CEO of Metinvest.
According to local media, if they can reach a definite agreement, which could happen within two or three months, construction of the new mill could start in the spring of 2024 and finish in 2026.
The overall investment in the project amounts to €2.2 billion, and it will involve more than 1,400 workers.
According to media reports, the feeling is that the meeting had a positive outcome, but there are still some issues to discuss, e.g., the coexistence of Metinvest-Danieli and JSW Steel Italy in Piombino. The common aim is, in fact, to transform this city into the new reference hub for Italian steelmaking industry, with the former company producing flats and the latter producing longs.
