South Korean steelmaker Pohang Iron and Steel Co. (POSCO) has announced that it has signed a contract with Oman-based green hydrogen developer Hydrom to produce green hydrogen for the next 47 years in the Duqm area, Oman.
Led by POSCO, a consortium including South Korean companies Samsung Engineering, Korea Southern Power and Korea East-West Power, France-based ENGIE, and Thailand-based PTTEP, plans to build a 5GW renewable energy complex and produce an annual 220,000 mt of green hydrogen.
The consortium aims to start construction of renewable energy and green hydrogen plants in 2027 and complete them in 2030.
