South Korean steelmaker POSCO's first continuous galvanizing line at its Chinese subsidiary Shunde POSCO Coated Steel based in Foshan in Guangdong Province has entered its test run phase, according to Korea Metal Journal (KMJ).

The line scheduled to be commissioned in December this year has an annual production capacity of 450,000 mt and will produce galvannealed sheets for the automotive industry. The line will be put into commercial production after a hot test run and a cold test run.

POSCO built the line to meet growing demand from car and home appliance makers in Guangdong Province. An expansion might be considered depending on future demand growth.

POSCO is building a second continuous galvanizing line in Mexico with a planned output capacity of 500,000 mt per year, in addition to its current 400,000 mt per year capacity galvanizing line in Mexico, for the North American automotive market. In May this year, it commissioned a new continuous galvanizing line in India with an annual production capacity of 450,000 mt.
