Heavy truck production in Mexico increased 12.7 percent, year over year, in June to 22,050 units, the highest volume in the last 15 months and also broke the negative streak of the last three months, according to SteelOrbis analysis. data from the national statistics office Inegi.
Of the 12 heavy truck manufacturers in Mexico, five increased their production, one remained unchanged, two reported zero production and four decreased their production.
Of the total production, 95.9 percent was concentrated in three companies: Freightliner (owned by the German Daimler Group) with 53.4 percent, International Truck contributed 31.7 percent and Kenworth, the Mexican subsidiary of Paccar, Inc. (owner of the Peterbilt and DAF truck brands) contributed 10.9 percent of the total.
The rest of the production was distributed in Mercedes-Benz Buses, Volkswagen Trucks and Buses, Isuzu, Foton, Hino, Volvo Buses and the Mexican Dina.
In foreign trade, June export volume decreased 3.6 percent, year over year, to 15,477 units. It is the largest volume exported in the last 12 months.
In the first half of the year, 101,950 units were manufactured and 78,881 units were exported, volumes that represented drops of 10.2 percent and 13.6 percent, respectively, compared to the same period in 2023.
