Russia and Kazakhstan supply all Ukraine's coking coal import needs in May

According to Derzhzovnishinform (DZI), the Ukrainian national research and information center for monitoring international commodity markets, the total amount of coking coal imported to Ukraine in May 2009 was delivered by just two countries, i.e. Russia and Kazakhstan.

Accordingly, in May 2009 Russia delivered 545,000 mt of coking coal to Ukraine, i.e. 86 percent of the country's total coking coal imports, at an average price of $74/mt, while Kazakhstan supplied 86,000 mt, the remaining 14 percent, at an average price of $101/mt.

In May 2009, Ukraine imported a total of 630,000 mt of coking coal - down 20 percent year on year - at an average price of $78/mt, which is lower by 55 percent compared to the average price in May 2008.
