According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal Customs Service, in January this year Russia exported about 2.265 million mt of ferrous metals, registering a 19.7 percent decrease year on year. Of this volume, 2.107 million mt were delivered to non-CIS countries - down 20 percent year on year, and 157,800 mt were supplied to CIS countries - down 17.6 percent year on year.
Russia's exports of semi-finished steel products declined in January of the current year by 39 percent to 731,700 mt, its exports of ferroalloys decreased by 27.7 percent to 42,000 mt, its flat rolled steel product exports dropped by 38.3 percent to 479,400 mt, while its exports of pig iron increased by 57.7 percent to 257,600 mt, all compared to January 2010.
Meanwhile, in January this year, Russia also registered a 9.3 percent decrease year on year in its iron ore and iron ore concentrate exports to 1.202 million mt and a 42 percent drop year on year in its coke and semi-coke exports to 77,800 mt.
On the other hand, in the first month of the current year, Russia's ferrous metal imports increased by eight percent year on year to 289,500 mt, of which 108,600 mt were imported from non-CIS countries - up 54.3 percent year on year, while 180,900 mt were supplied from CIS countries - down 8.6 percent year on year.
Russia's steel pipe imports in January this year rose by 281.5 percent to 175,500 mt, of which 74,200 mt were imported from non-CIS countries - up 479.7 percent year on year, while 101,300 mt were supplied from CIS countries - up 205 percent year on year.
