According to the data released by the Russian Federation's Federal State Statistics Service, in the first four months of 2009 the country registered a 17.3 percent decrease in coal mining output and a 24.7 percent reduction in iron ore mining output year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 91.7 million and 26.6 million.
In addition, during the same period Russia produced 7.7 million metric tons of coke - down 34.1 percent, 15 million metric tons of finished steel products - down 29.1 percent, and 1.9 million metric tons of steel pipes - down 29.8 percent, all compared to January-April 2008.
