The Russian government has announced that, in order to protect domestic coal producers, it has removed the export duties on coking coal and that it has extended the moratorium on export duties on anthracite and steam coal.

Accordingly, starting from December 1, 2024, the duty on coking coal exports was terminated. While the moratorium on the duties on anthracite and steam coal has been extended until the end of this year, the export duties applied on anthracite and steam coal will be terminated as of January 1, 2025.

The coal export duties related to the ruble-US dollar exchange rate were first applied in October 2023.
