Russian steelmaker Ashinskiy issues Jan-July results

According to the data issued for the first seven months of 2009, Russian steel producer Ashinskiy Metallurgical Works (Ashinskiy) has registered a 13.6 percent decrease year on year in the value of its steel product output, to about Ruble 5.458 billion (approx. $143.4 million).

In January-July 2009, Ashinskiy produced 338,600 mt of crude steel - down 19.4 percent, and 313,700 mt of finished steel - down 5.9 percent, both compared to the same period last year.

In addition, during the period in question Ashinskiy's sales of heavy plates decreased by 8.6 percent year on year to 273,800 mt. Of this number 139,500 mt of heavy plates were delivered to the Russian domestic market - down 36.6 percent, 121,700 mt were exported to non-CIS countries - up 76.2 percent, and 12,700 mt were delivered to CIS countries - up 19.6 percent, all compared to January-July 2008.

Currently, Ashinskiy is continuing the reconstruction of its flat rolling shop No. 1, the first stage of which is to be completed by autumn this year.
