Germany-based steelmaker Salzgitter Group has announced that its subsidiary Salzgitter Flachstahl and European automotive supplier Snop have signed a memorandum of understanding for supply of carbon-reduced steel produced under the SALCOS® - Salzgitter Low CO₂ Steelmaking program.
Snop, which is a long-standing partner of Salzgitter Flachstahl and is mainly supplied with surface-coated flat steel products, has production sites in Germany, Slovakia, Poland, the Czech Republic and France.
In the course of the SALCOS® transformation program, Salzgitter will gradually convert its steel production to hydrogen-based processes with the aim to achieve virtually carbon-free production from 2033.
