The Brazilian iron ore and pellets producer, Samarco, has reactivated its concentrator number 2 and started another waste filtration plant in the Germano Complex, located in the southeastern state of Minas Gerais.
With the improvements, known as Phase 2 of the operational resumption plan, the company is now able to produce 15 million mt of iron ore fines and pellets, a volume that is equivalent to double of the company’s capacity, when it started to resume operations in 2020, after the massive accident that occurred in the Mariana rejects dam in 2015.
Before the accident, Samarco’s capacity was 30 million mt per year.
According to the company, Phase 2 was originally scheduled for March 2025.
