Scrap continues to rise on Orbis Steel Index

In the week from September 3 to September 9, on the Orbis Steel Index, the Turkish scrap index moved upwards only very slightly, the US (East Coast) HMS I/II scrap export index continued to increase, while the Turkish rebar index moved downwards and the Turkish flat rolled indexes showed downward movement.

As per the Orbis Steel Index data, the index movements in the week from September 3 to September 9 as per product are as follows:

Turkish Scrap Index moved up very slightly, rising by 0.02 percent week on week to 122.3.

US (East Coast) HMS I/II Scrap Export Index continued its rising movement, with the index value increasing by 1.87 percent week on week to 141.41.

Turkish Rebar Index decreased by 3.97 percent week on week to 121.6. 

Turkish HRC Index continued to fall in the given week. The index value declined by 1.21 percent week on week to 95.6. 

Black Sea HRC Export Index maintained its downward movement. The index value went down by 3.59 percent week on week to 102.19.

Turkish HDG Index started to decrease, with the index value falling by 0.69 percent week on week to 92.74.  

Turkish CRC Index went down by 1.4 percent week on week to 95.58.

*Explanations:

Turkish Scrap Index: based on the weighted average of prices published by SteelOrbis of domestic ferrous scrap purchased weekly by Turkish steel mills, and imported HMS 80/20 CFR Turkey.

Turkish Rebar Index: based on the weighted average of prices published by SteelOrbis of commercial quality deformed steel reinforcing bars produced and sold by Turkish mills and subsequently merchants, both in the domestic market on ex-warehouse basis and for export on FOB Turkey basis.

Turkish HRC Index: based on the weighted average of prices published by SteelOrbis of commercial quality HRC produced or imported, and then sold by Turkish mills on ex-warehouse basis.
